Measurement Rules

Units and display
Section titled “Units and display”- Linear measurements use feet, displayed as whole feet only (
25 ft). - Store sufficient internal precision; round each automatically measured segment up to the next whole foot.
- Each line displays its own editable measurement label; tapping FT opens a numeric keypad.
- A manual segment value replaces its automatic value. Changing that segment’s geometry clears the manual override and recalculates.
- The Canvas never displays one general footage total — the SOW groups and totals compatible canvas elements.
Calibration
Section titled “Calibration”- Map backgrounds initially use the map provider’s scale; the user may run Calibrate Scale with a known reference distance. Calibration recalculates automatic measurements but preserves explicit FT overrides.
- Blank, Image, and Camera have no automatic scale until calibrated. Without a valid scale, new lines require manual FT — the app must never invent footage.
Canvas ↔ SOW footage
Section titled “Canvas ↔ SOW footage”- Canvas is the source of physical geometry, object locations, and individual line measurements; canvas changes automatically update grouped SOW quantities/footage.
- The Estimator may manually override grouped billable footage in the SOW. The override does not auto-distribute across canvas segments, and billable SOW footage may differ from the sum of canvas labels — matching is not mandatory.
- A later physical canvas edit recalculates the affected group and replaces its grouped value with the new canvas result.
- Configuration, material, color, and price changes in the SOW never change canvas geometry or appearance.
